The trail is primarily used for hiking, is accessible year-round, and is both a family and dog friendly trail.
This can be done as an out and back hike just to the waterfalls or you can make it a loop hike. The trail to the waterfall is an easy forest walk along the headwaters of the Catawba River. Steps and platforms have been added to allow safe access to both the lower and upper waterfalls. A new loop option has also opened, adding 2.1 miles of forested trail (Ridge Trai).
