Rutherford Outdoor Coalition invites you to join us on the trails in and around Rutherford County for hiking and walking enthusiasts of all ages and abilities.
Participants discover new local trails, gain skills from a professional, knowledgeable hiking instructor leading the way, and learn what to wear and pack on hikes to preform your best. This educational opportunity helps you feel confident about hiking and provides an opportunity to make meaningful connections with others interested in hiking.

Want to take your hiking to the next level? ROC offers short backpacking trips that are the perfect way to wet your feet into the activity. These 1-2 day adventures cover the basics of back-country camping, cooking, Leave No Trace ethics, and more!

Want to get out on the water, join an ROC river clean-up, or just learn a new skill? This is a short introduction into the world of paddling that will teach you the basics of kayaking/canoeing strokes and water safety.

You could save a life! Learn how to address minor wounds and illnesses and the life-saving skill of CPR/AED.
ROC’s Outdoor Programs Manager, Gabe Isaac – a certified Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED instructor – teaches this 10-hour course, using hands-on instruction.
“It really helps when something happens in the real world.” Said one student in retrospect after encountering a diabetic in need on trail. “I knew what to do and it was because of ROC’s class.”

Whether you want to become a ROC Chainsaw Certified Volunteer or just gain confidence and safety skills working with chainsaws, this course is a great opportunity. Learn the safety, physics, and maintenance of chainsaw work. ROC sponsors these classes at litter or no cost to participants (donation welcome!) on an as-needed basis.
